Couples Counselling

Relationships can be bloody hard sometimes.

You can love someone deeply and still find yourselves stuck in the same arguments, feeling unheard, disconnected, resentful or simply wondering how on earth you got here.

Couples counselling isn't about deciding who's right and who's wrong, or taking sides. It's a space for both of you to slow things down, understand what's happening between you and start communicating in a different way.

You might come to counselling because something specific has happened, because you've been struggling for a long time, or simply because things don't feel quite right anymore.

We can explore things like communication, conflict, trust, intimacy, neurodivergence, changing roles, parenting, life transitions, resentment and feeling disconnected from one another.

Sometimes the aim is to find your way back to each other. Sometimes it's to understand whether the relationship can continue. And sometimes it's about finding a healthier way forward, whatever that looks like for you.

A space for both of you

I work in a person-centred way, which means I'm not here to judge either of you or tell you how your relationship should look.

I'll help you both feel heard, notice the patterns you may have become caught in, and understand what's happening underneath the arguments - because quite often, what we're arguing about isn't really what we're arguing about.

You are two individual people, each bringing your own experiences, needs, fears and ways of communicating into one relationship. The work is about making space for you, me and us.

Before we meet

Before our first session, I'll send each of you a short form to complete separately. This gives you both the opportunity to tell me, in your own words, what has brought you to counselling and what you're hoping for from our work together.

I'll ask you to complete these before we meet so I can read through your responses beforehand and have a little understanding of what's going on for each of you.

Your forms are completed separately, so you can each be open about your own experience of the relationship. As we're working together as a couple, though, our sessions need to be based on openness and honesty rather than me holding important information on behalf of one person. We'll talk about what this means and agree how we'll work together before we begin.

Couples counselling also needs to feel safe for both people. If there are concerns around abuse, coercion, intimidation or fear within the relationship, we'll consider together whether couples counselling is appropriate and what support may be safer or more helpful.

Sessions & fees

Couples sessions are £85 for 75 minutes. They're a little longer than my usual 50-minute individual sessions, giving us enough time for both of you to have space without everything feeling rushed.

Sessions are available face-to-face or online.

Ready to talk?

You don't need to have everything figured out before you get in touch. If you're wondering whether couples counselling might be right for you, send me a message and tell me a little about what's been going on.
