When Cancer Touches Your Life
Cancer can touch our lives in many different ways. You may be living with a diagnosis yourself, supporting someone you love, caring for a family member, or trying to cope with a loss. Whatever your experience, you don't have to navigate it alone.
A cancer diagnosis can bring a wide range of emotions. Fear, uncertainty, sadness, anger, guilt, overwhelm and even loneliness are all common responses. For some people, these feelings begin at diagnosis. For others, they appear months or even years later.
Cancer doesn't just affect the person diagnosed. It can have a profound impact on partners, children, parents, family members, friends and carers. Watching someone you love go through treatment, living with uncertainty, or adjusting to life after a loss can be incredibly challenging.
You may recognise some of the following:
- Feeling anxious about the future.
- Struggling with uncertainty.
- Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.
- Finding it difficult to cope with changes in relationships.
- Feeling isolated or misunderstood.
- Worrying about a loved one.
- Trying to adjust to life after treatment.
- Coping with grief and loss.
- Feeling pressure to stay strong for others.
- Finding it difficult to talk openly about how you're feeling.
How counselling can help
Counselling provides a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about your experiences and emotions.
Together, we can explore what you're going through, make sense of difficult feelings, and help you find ways to cope during what can be one of life's most challenging experiences.
There is no right or wrong way to feel when cancer touches your life. Whatever your experience, you deserve support too.
